Here comes the Summer (Fair)
This year’s Summer Fair will take place at the Church of the Holy Spirit, Clapham (Narbonne Avenue, London SW4 9JU) on 22 June from 12 noon until 4pm.
The Summer Fair is the church’s biggest fund-raising event of the year. To help make it as fruitful as possible, please consider what you can donate and how you might volunteer.
Christian Aid - Thank you!
On 12 May, we held a Christian Aid Big Brekkie outside church featuring freshly-made bacon butties and on 16 May our Christian Aid Week Quiz Night. This year, we were delighted to be able to send £929.80 to Christian Aid! Thank you to everyone to volunteered or took part!
Take note…
We’re looking for a new PCC Secretary to help with notices, agendas and minutes of meetings and generally keeping our Parochial Church Council (our board) running smoothly.

Big Help Out
The Friends of Clapham Common are organising a Community Litter Pick on Clapham Common on Monday 8th May as part of The Big Help Out to mark the Coronation.
If you wish to take part, meet by the Bandstand on Clapham Common from 11am for a couple of hours’ litter picking. The Friends will provide litter picking sticks, bags and gloves if people need them.
Winter is coming
This winter (after two years break due to covid health restrictions) we will once again be hosting homeless guests at Holy Spirit. The Robes night shelter is an enormously rewarding way to make a difference locally. We will be hosting Saturday night and Sunday morning for the first three weekends in December (3/4 Dec, 10/11 Dec, 17/18 Dec), and possibly the last weekend (31 December/1 January).
We are looking for volunteers to help out. Training and support are provided and there is always an experienced Team Leader on hand.
Milk and Two Sugars
After Church Tea and Coffee
We all enjoy having a coffee and chat after the Sunday service, so it would be great if we could get some help to make this happen each week. On Sunday there will be a rota at the back of the church to sign up for one week or for a regular slot, please volunteer to do whatever you can.
For anyone who has not volunteered before, Kathryn can show you where everything is and talk you through the coffee machine (v easy!)
Sip, sip, Hooray!
On Saturday 25th June 2020, we held a Summer Show and Afternoon Tea in church. It was a sell-out, sumptuous success set to music to suit every taste!
Your chance to serve!
We have vacancies to serve on Sunday mornings as Sacristan or as various types of Server. Here’s your chance to serve!

Thank you! Big Brekkie brings home the bacon
On Sunday 15th May 2022, we held a Big Brekkie fundraiser for Christian Aid Week.
With Alan Mundy, Katie Pollock and Biddy Taylor staffing the stove, two batches of Kathryn Newell’s mouth-watering muffins, and Andrew Chevis crewing the card reader, an early-rising team gathered a whopping £512.
To everyone who grilled, baked or munched, many many thanks on behalf of Christian Aid.

Be our Christian Aid rep!
We are looking for someone to take on the role of Christian Aid representative.
This isn’t a big role. It involves organising an annual collection to coincide with Christian Aid week and the occasional fundraiser.
“Thank you” from Ace of Clubs
Ace of Clubs is most grateful to have been chosen as the local charity to be supported by Holy Spirit Clapham this Christmas.
Christmas flowers
Judith Vickery is happy to receive donations towards the cost of the Christmas flowers.
Judith will be in church at 10.30a.m. on 23rd December to arrange flowers and decorate the church. All volunteers are welcome: no experience required!
Volunteer with Girlguiding!
You can help us create amazing opportunities for girls in Clapham and Clapham Park. Volunteers run projects, events and activities that give girls the chance to discover their potential and learn new skills that set them up for life.
There are lots of ways you can volunteer with us, it’s flexible and can fit around busy lifestyles. You yourself could acquire new skills and receive training while making a real difference.
Theology Uncorked
After popular demand for its return, we are looking to meet again to chat about theology thoughts and drink things together (BYO for both)!
Past topics have included Teaching, Eucharist and the Sacraments, vocation and many more. It is a great opportunity to think more deeply about our faith and beliefs and to work through these things with others.
Choral scholarships
Holy Spirit Clapham is delighted to be offering four choral scholarships (one to each voice part) starting in Autumn 2021.
These scholarships are ideal for singers with a background singing in Anglican church music who are looking to continue developing their skills on a regular basis, but may struggle to commit to a choir which performs more than once a week.
Winter night shelter
This year the night shelter will be different. Our guests will all be housed in Canary Wharf and we need volunteers from January-March to cook hot food which we will take to the guests. Each week we will need food and four volunteers to go with the food and serve it to the guests and chat and clear up afterwards.
Silver socials are back!
Silver socials, our weekly get-together on Tuesday mornings is back! Tea and cake, chat and laugh, bingo and crafts our older and wiser neighbours.
We offer lifts to those unable to walk to church. If you know someone who lives locally and might like to attend or if you can help out occasionally please contact Judith Vickery.
