Abbeville Fete 2005 Print E-mail
The 2005 Abbeville Fete was on Saturday 25 June and has raised over 12,000. Each year the Fete gets bigger and better and 100% of all the profits raised will go to local charities. Organised by the local community for the benefit of the local community. You can see photos of this year and previous years by clicking here.

The theme this year was nautical. Pirates, damsels, mermaids, sea creatures and seafarers galore, all welcome! There were plenty of games and competitions for both children and adults to participate in. The Fete is centred on Abbeville Road, Narbonne Avenue, the Church of the Holy Spirit and the Contact Centre with stalls and activities to suit everyone. The programme for this year fete is available for download by clicking here (2005 Abbeville Fete Programme).

The ever popular barbecue was in Narbonne Avenue with a licensed bar selling beer, wine and Pimms. Inside the church there were teas, cakes, strawberries and cream and live entertainment including guitar and piano recitals.

Along Narbonne Avenue and Abbeville Road there was a multitude of stalls selling jewellery, clothes, art, bags, books, gifts, bric-a-brac, plants as well as tombolas and competitions etc etc. Every year nearly all the shopkeepers get involved and hold tastings, competitions, varying types of entertainment, including the very popular Newtons’ Waiters’ Race held along Abbeville Road. As they have in the past, the local police and the fire crew and their engine were in attendance.

In the Contact Centre on Hambalt Road there was a variety of entertainment for children and throughout the afternoon our favourite street entertainer, Jebb the Juggler, was performing along Abbeville Road and Narbonne Avenue which along with balloons and bunting added to the fantastic festive atmosphere. The Dog & Pet Shows were extremely popular as always.

There were many fantastic lots at the Silent Auction held in the Church and a tremendous raffle. Local businesses, shops and restaurants donated all the prizes.

In 2005 over 12,000 was raised, all of which has been put to good use in the local community. The charities supported include The Ace of Clubs homeless day centre, Mosaic Clubhouse, Parents for Inclusion, Notre Dame Estate summer workshop projects, Bonneville Macaulay and St Mary's schools, Charleston House Extra Care Sheltered Accommodation and the Cancer Resource Centre, based in Wandsworth, which serves members of our local community.
