Abbeville Fete 2004 Print E-mail

The most recent Abbeville Fete took place on Saturday 26th June 2004. Each year the Fete gets bigger and better and 100% of all the money raised goes to local charities. Organised by the local community for the benefit of the local community. This year (2004) we raised over £10,000 for local charities. The date of the next Fete is Saturday 25th June 2005.

The Fete is centred around Abbeville Road, Narbonne Avenue, the Church of the Holy Spirit and the Contact Centre (click for a map) with stalls and activities to suit everyone. interior.jpgbarbeque.jpg

The ever popular barbeque was in Narbonne Avenue with a licensed bar selling beer, wine and Pimms. Inside the church there were teas, cakes, strawberries and cream and live entertainment including music from Bonneville School drummers, St Mary’s school choir, guitar and piano.

Along Narbonne Avenue and Abbeville Road there were a multitude of stalls selling jewellery, clothes, bags, books, gifts, bric-a-brac, plants as well as tombolas and competitions etc etc. Nearly all the shopkeepers got involved with tastings, competitions, varying types of entertainment, including the very popular Waiters’ Race held along Abbeville Road. And as in previous years the local fire crew and their engine and police with their dog were in attendance. juggler.jpg

In the Contact Centre on Hambalt Road there was a variety of entertainments for children including a chance to kick a few balls, a bouncy castle and face painting. Throughout the afternoon a street entertainer, Jebb the Juggler, performed along Abbeville Road and Narbonne Avenue which along with balloons and bunting added to the fantastic festive atmosphere.

There is always a tremendous raffle and this year was no exception. All the prizes were been donated by local businesses, shops and restaurants and included returdog_show.jpgn Eurostar tickets to Paris, vouchers for meals in local restaurants along with many highly desirable gifts and treats. Congratulations to all the winners!

Pets are also a welcome part of the day. There was a small animals pet show outside David Cuffe's, the vet on Abbeville Road, and a dog show.

In 2004 over £10,000 was raised, all of which has been put to good use in the local community. The charities supported include The Ace of Clubs homeless day centre, Mosaic Clubhouse, Parents for Inclusion, Together in Notre Dame, Bonneville and Macaulay schools, Charleston House Extra Care Sheltered Accommodation.

The date of next year's Fete is Saturday 25th June 2005.
